Barcode Scanner Use

Many libraries use their own barcode system to track books, CDs, DVDs and other library resources.  Barcodes provide a simple and reliable way to look up library records in your library management software and barcode scanners have become inexpensive.

Church Social librarians can add library barcodes to your church library books and resources. This means that in Church Social you can now keep track of items that don't already have a product barcode (ISBN or EAN) and situations where you have more than one copy of a library resource.

Looking up library resources by barcode

To scan the barcode into Church Social do the following:

  1. Go to the Library page.
  2. Click in Search box located just above your library resources (pictured below).

  3. Use your barcode scanner to scan the barcode on the book
  4. The book, CD or other library resource should now appear on the page below the Search bos.
  5. You can then click on the book and if you wish, click on the Checkout button to assign the book to one of your members or return the book to your library if it was previously checked out.
